Radiant. That is what describes the career and life of the Jean michel Basqiat. Like a shooting star speeding into oblivion, Basqiat reached the pinnacle of the art world and beyond. His art rose from the New York street Art movement and eventually grew into the most wideley known and profound art in the world. His genius made him an icon and a legend in the modern art world. He was an enigma, and his introvertedness was seen in his public lifestyle. The style that basqiuiat used was symbolic of a rejection of the bourgeiose art culture of the time, and the ability of his art to critique society made it iconic. Jean Micel was born in brooklyn new york, and as a child he had a percarious famiilial envornment. When he was 8 his parents split up,during a traumatic time in lis life, as he was recovering from being hit by a car. He was then raised by his father until the age of 16, when he was banished from his home for being arrested.

Basquiat Moved into His friends apartment and began creating custom T shirts and spraypainting clever and profound satirical graffiti on the walls of New York. His pseudonym SAMO was derived from his dissatisfaction with the status quo, the “same ole same”, and his art followed that same theme of individuality. Basqiat was courted by fame and mentors and eventually was a nearly household name in the modern art scene. His rise to fame also coincided with the art buying boom of the 1980s, which caused his art to yield never before seen prices. His painting style was a continuation of his activities as a graffiti artist. Basquiat often incorporated cryptic words into his paintings. Before his career as a painter began, he produced punk-inspired postcards for sale on the street, and become known for the political–poetical graffiti.The conjunction of various media is an integral element of Basquiat's art.
