According to the dictionary, racism is discrimination or bias based on race. It is believed that a certain race accounts for diversity in human personality or capability and that a certain race is greater than others. Racism is also described as the belief that inborn different qualities in human racial groups validate discrimination. Modern usage frequently associates racism and racial discrimination and describes the latter term only as wicked practices. Racism is generally associated with actions that are illegal or mostly considered detrimental, such as xenophobia, hate, extremism, mass murder, self-rule, racial supremacy, terrorism, etc. Webster’s dictionary describes racism as a conviction that race is the main determinant of human qualities and capabilities and those racial variances produce an intrinsic superiority or inferiority of a certain racial grouping. Racial discrimination; racial discrimination refers to separation of humans through a method of societal division into groupings not necessarily allied to races for purposes of dissimilar treatment. According to research done at the University of Chicago, it was found that there was prevalent discrimination in the work places against job applicants whose names ‘sound black’. These candidates were 50% less probable to be considered as compared to those whose names ‘sounded white’. In contrast, organizations and law courts have supported discrimination against whites when it is done to encourage a diverse work or academic environment, even when it was perceived to be to the qualified candidates.
