Race and Your Community Final Project     2

As a Mexican American Caucasian woman I in truth do not see any difference between the members in my community and myself. I have brown hair and light skin as most Mexican Americans where I reside do. I live in a small community where we have many different races that look different from I. In my community we have Caucasians, African Americans, Native Americans, Muslims, Arabs, Italians, and, of course, Mexican Americans.
While we all look different in our own way we are all treated the same. Our mayor is a Caucasian man with a Mexican American wife so I can say he has nothing bad to say about different races. He owns a grocery store and hires our local high school students to work so he or she can stay out of trouble.
Our community is so small everyone talks each other without discrimination. I mainly see texts in schools and workplace overlook the Mexican Americans past. Because Mexican Americans were considered white, our past was over looked in history books. Just like African Americans we were segregated against. We had to go to certain schools, not allowed in certain buildings, and were targeted for hate crimes. Even though Mexican Americans had such bad treatment it has been over looked and forgotten.
