Quick Response codes are a fast and convenient way for people to view a company’s website and store information on their phones. They are tool that is becoming very popular over here in the United States. Japan has been using them for years, and when traveling over there you can see them on billboards, buildings, magazines, and random products like soda bottles. The United States is beginning to implement these in to our daily lives through marketing and trying to get rids of old promotional ways, and draw in consumers with an easier more convenient method [ (Educause Learning Initiative, 2010) ]. It is used by downloading a QR reader app on your phone. Once this done all that is necessary is to take a picture of the QR code wherever it may be and it will download the content on your phone or take you to a company’s website [ (Xue, 2011) ]. QR codes are becoming more and more popular as many companies begin to use them for their marketing campaigns; today QR codes are the best way for a marketer to connect the world with their information on a person’s cell phone.
QR codes were not always used for what they are today. They began as a way to track parts in a vehicle, but now are used in many other more useful ways. Starting off in Japan, QR codes became extremely popular and since then have been expanding across Europe, the Middle East, and the United States. Its development came about because companies wanted to expand on the current amount of bars in the bar code and how if you positioned them differently it could create a greater data capacity [ (MbileBarcodes.com, 2011) ].
