Question 1 – Review what your role, responsibilities and boundaries as a teacher would be in terms of the teaching/training cycle.

The teaching cycle consists of 5 stages; identify need, plan and design, deliver, assess and evaluate.   This teaching cycle allows teachers and trainers to plan, execute and continually develop their teaching style and lesson delivery.

This statement highlights the importance of the evaluation stage of the teaching cycle, allowing teachers to evaluate how their lesson went and how to improve.

Identify
Firstly one must identify the training need of the class they are to teach.   This can be done by initial assessment, either verbal, written or by observations.   A teacher’s role within this stage is to decide how is best to assess or decide what the objectives should be.   Their responsibilities are to ensure that the objectives that they set are achievable and fair to the class.   Sometimes a students needs are outside the sphere of responsibility of a teacher and so should be referred to an appropriate person.   For example, a student may be having home issues.   A teacher must remain professional and not get personal with student, but at the same time they must be willing to help the student in order to meet their needs.   Agency referral is often the best plan of action.   Some needs may be less dramatic, maybe a student has dyslexia or Attention Deficiency Hyperactive Disorder.   The teacher must then address these needs as it is within the responsibility of the teacher.

Plan and Design
Stage two is the planning and design of the course or lesson.   A clear plan including how to achieve the needs identified and stage one and details such as time to be spent on each subject should reflect the initial assessment of the class.   This also provides a guide for the teacher and helps keep them on track.
