Public transport demand model is a fundamental research to plan the transport system for any city. This research aims to develop a model based on SATURN software which is well known as transportation software and able to depict the real scenario. With the assistance of the software a demand model is prepared for Dhaka city, the capital of Bangladesh. To prepare this model, in this research various data are collected which are require by the software and process those data in ArcGIS software and code into SATURN format. After that those coded data are feed in SATURN software and the model has been prepared. From the model the demand for public transport is analysis with the help of several modules and analysis the general flow of public transport, capacity flow of public transport, trip generation and distribution of public transport. From these analysis various situation are found. Commencing these analysis, some discussion are made, these are Mirpur, New market, Dhanmondi, Gulshan 1 &2, Mohakhali, Motijheel, Newmarket, Shahabagh, Farm gate areas have higher flow of public transport than other areas because people employ in these zone and various activity are exist also in these areas. So, there is imbalance of public transport flow in public transport routes and to bus stops. That’s why in future these arenas may cause problems. Some zones have higher demand of capacity in terms of both bus stops and bus routes and some zones have less demand of capacity. These surpluses and deficits should be minimizing. So there is a choice for release surplus and meet deficits. The major main and arterial roads of Dhaka city are aligned with north to south. It may cause problems in future for connecting east to west of Dhaka city. So this problem should consider in future transport planning. Gulshan 1 and 2, Mirpur road, Motijheel, Farm gate, Shahabagh areas have higher demand than other areas because these areas have more activity than others area. There is an... [continues]
