It did not take me very long after arriving at Florida A&M University to realize that I wanted to dedicate my career to public service. To me, public service is more than just a resume line or something you do occasionally on a Saturday afternoon. It has become a commonality in my life. I believe that I am qualified candidate for this internship because I not only already have a strong record of public service outside of the classroom, but my dedication to serving others is second to none.
My goal is to attain a MBA degree from Florida A&M University so that I can be an engineer and IT manager for the Department of Defense. To ensure that I can actually achieve this career goal, I have already completed four federal internships. I have been blessed to intern twice with the Federal Aviation Administration where I worked in the capacity of a systems engineer. Next, I worked with the National Institute of Health in the capacity of a programmer and finally I worked with NAVAIR in the summer of 2011 in the capacity of a systems engineer. These internships have been monumental in developing my leadership, professionalism, and analytical skills. Ultimately, I plan on becoming an engineering consultant to the Department of Defense. This wonderful internship would help me further diversify my skills in the areas of teamwork, leadership, adaptability, analytically, research, and culture. While doing some fundamental research on the Smithsonian I learned that the resources from researchers are very immense. I would like to help enhance this research by automating certain processes and creating mobile applications perhaps. Also, it would be great to live in our nation’s capital for ten weeks. From previous experiences in the D.C. area I must say the entertainment in the summer is a major plus for interns, tourist, natives, and visitors to within the area.
