The multi-factorial model is the leading contemporary model in health psychology. It helps people to understand why there is no simple answer to why some people can live a healthy life and barely ever get catch a cold and never have any illnesses. It also helps people to understand why there is no simple answer as to why some people get cancer, have heart attacks, and even why some people catch a cold every other month. The multi-factorial model is a belief that health and illness are a combination of different factors like biological, psychological, cultural domains, and the way they interact with each other. The multi-factorial model provides people with awareness on their vulnerability to illnesses and things about our health as well. There are things in life that everyone has control of and some things that cannot be controlled the multi-factorial gives people a good idea of how people become infected with illnesses and also the influences like genetic factors and a person’s lifestyle. When it comes to biological such as pathogens, inoculations, sex, age, and family history play a role in illness as well as genetics. Even though there are many cases where someone becomes ill and it is because of genetics but just because a person’s parents or grandparents have cancer or heart problems does not mean they will get it because they share the same genes it just means they have a chance of developing some of the health problems. A person who has a family history that has no illnesses and barley ever gets sick can become ill simply by the way they are living their life. Some examples of lifestyle that can lead to cancer, heart disease, and diabetes are peoples eating habits, drugs, alcohol, not exercising, smoking, and many other factors.
