Psychology and Health Problems
The multi-factorial model uses many genetic and lifestyle facts in order to diagnose psychological disorders that can affect one’s health. The model can also be used to determine whether or not somebody could be prone to psychological disorder. This model has been an essential tool to be able to better understand and manage many health and psychological problems.
The multi-factorial model uses many different factors to determine how at risk we are to illness and to analyze our health. These factors can consist of biological, sociological, environmental or lifestyle stressors to come to a conclusive judgment. To determine what factors can lead to illness, the model takes into consideration different factors, such as environmental or sociological, biological for instance. The factors that are beyond our control are factors that can lead to physical illness, such as biological. A good example, could be someone who persistently drinks can increase their chances for liver malfunction, or somebody with a poor diet can end up obese. If this person has an addictive trait, such as a relative (father) who was an alcoholic or binge eater, this could increase their chances of getting sick. This is where the MFM (multi-factorial model) could come into play. Psychologists could look at these factors and determine how to avoid such illnesses by examining their biological traits. A second example of this model could be to look at someone who is prone to coronary illnesses. They could look at certain behaviors that the patient demonstrates, such as what diet they follow or what activities they’re involved in; also they could look at the different stressors in this person’s life. For example, if the person has a job which requires a lot from their daily routine then it would be recommended for them to avoid such stressors in their lives due to the fact that this can contribute to the amount of stress in their daily life.
