Course Description:
This course is a study of emotional, intellectual, social and physical growth patterns from conception to death. It emphasizes an integrated approach to each life phase. It also examines the influence of heredity and environment on the life span. The study also includes applicable theories of development.

Required Text:

Upon completion of Developmental Psychology, the student should be able to demonstrate an increased understanding of …

* Comparing/contrasting the major psychological theories of development. * Describing the interplay between biological, social, and cognitive factors in shaping human development. * Identifying major developmental milestones and normative behavior at each stage of development. * Differentiating between group and individual differences that shape human development.

Course Requirements:
There will be 3 exams and a final. The exams and the final will consist of 50 multiple-choice questions (worth 1 point each). All exams including the final will cover assigned readings, media presentations, and other relevant class material. All exams will be worth 50 points each. THERE WILL BE NO MAKE-UP EXAMS.

Research Assignment:
There will be 1 Research/Critical Thinking assignment throughout the summer.

Influence of Piaget/Erikson Developmental Theory Due 7/11/11

The research assignment will require an understanding of the Developmental theories of Piaget and/or Erikson. You will be required to provide an explanation of how either one of these theories has influenced your developmental life. The assignment must be 3-5 pages typewritten (double-spaced) and must include an understanding of your own personal development. The research assignment is worth 50 points. THIS ASSIGMENT MUST BE CREATED AND FORWARDED AS A WORD DOCUMENT (PLEASE SAVE IT AS A WORD 97-2003 FORMAT) TO MY DIGITAL DROP-BOX ON THE DUE DATE. PLEASE MAKE CERTAIN THAT YOU HAVE A COPY OF YOUR ASSIGNMENT FOR YOUR RECORDS. NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Basic Requirements and Grading Criteria for Research Assignment: 1. Content (quality of paper)
2. Input of OWN ideas and critical thinking
3. Organization and flow of the papers
4. Title page (includes Title, your name, class time/day) 5. Minimum of 3 typewritten (double-spaced) pages
6. Standard 10 or 12 point type
7. Margins no wider than 1” on all sides

There will be 4 Quizzes throughout the summer (On FRIDAYS). The quizzes will cover lecture, book, media presentation, and other relevant class material. The purpose of these quizzes is to keep you motivated, current, and serve as a review of the class material. The quizzes are worth 10 points each. You will find these Quizzes in the “ASSIGNMENTS” section. I will inform you ahead of time in the ANNOUNCEMENT section of Course Compass of when these quizzes will be posted. Please make sure that you (LOG ON) on the day the quizzes will be posted. The quizzes will be timed. You will only have 10 min to complete the quiz. THERE WILL BE NO MAKE-UP QUIZZES.
