Psychological Disorder Analysis
Marla is a 42-year-old Hispanic female who comes to the mental health clinic complaining of trouble sleeping, feeling "jumpy all of the time," and an inability to concentrate. These symptoms are causing problems for her at work, where she is an accountant. Marla reports that she has been married and has one child from this marriage, in which she recently had gotten a divorce. Marla states that her only child has health problems with colic and acid reflux, recently she and the baby stayed at the hospital for a few days. Marla reported that she has a few drinks in order to relax due to stress. Marla reported that she chose to drink more, because of her divorce. Marla reported graduating from high school in 1985. I believe after having my first session with Maria and finding out about her symptoms and her family history I believe she has ADHD. I also found some abuse with alcohol which she explained to me that her parents had also abused alcohol as well. With her family history of substance abuse Maria is also prone to that as well, so I will keep my eye out for any major symptoms that may develop over the next set of sessions.
Clinical Interview Questions
1. When did the problem first begin? How long have the symptoms been a problem?
In all actuality I suppose that these symptoms started at a young age, I would say around the age of 8 or 9. But, now I started to realize that it was becoming an issue within the last few months.
2. Is there a history of these problems?
Maria stated that she was reluctant to find out if there were any psychological disorders that she might have. Marla stated that she has never been diagnosed with ADHD in the past. But she does recall when she had her last physical the doctor recommended her to see a... [continues]
