STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
In this chapter, the proponents discuss the statement of the problem, the objective of the study, the hypothesis or the assumptions, the significance of the study, and its scope and limitations. INTRODUCTION
Student academic record is an area of the registrar’s office functions. These include student’s personal information, official grades, original admission documents, grade changes and incomplete grade remarks. The registrar’s office is responsible in keeping these records secure and accessible. This is because, these records serves as basis in producing student credentials like class cards and transcript of records.
Also, instructors has a big contribution when it comes to student’s academic records. Grading software is a tool that helps instructors. Some of them use Microsoft Excel spreadsheets to calculate grades while others use software packages designed for broader classroom applications. No matter what product is used, judicious use of such software provide instructor with a good partner in delivering quality education. Automated systems are totally affected by the rapidly changing technology. Neither a fad nor simply a tool, technology has become a fundamental force shaping the future. This affects the traditional ways in which people access and use information. With a good grade recording and monitoring system, students know where they stand in the course. They get an earlier warning about developing problems and better remediation. The instructor and the registrar will be benefited when it comes in recording the academic grades and keeping the records updated. With this in mind, the proponents propose an Automated Student’s Academic Recording and Monitoring System for AMA Computer Learning Center. 1
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The main aim of the study is to design and develop an Automated Students’ Academic Recording and Monitoring System for AMA Computer Learning Center. Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions:
1. What are the processes involve in the existing grading system of AMA Computer Learning Center? 2. What are the problems encountered in the existing grading system? 3. What benefits can be achieved once the proposed Student’s Academic Recording and Monitoring System is applied on the school as perceived by the a. Students
4. What security measures will be implemented in the Student’s Academic Recording and Monitoring System?
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
Specifically, it seeks to achieve the following:
1. Describe the existing grading system of AMA Computer Learning Center . 2. Determine specific problems encountered in the existing grading system. 3. Identify the benefits that can be achieved once the Proposed Automated Student’s Academic Recording and Monitoring System is applied on the school as perceived by the: a. Students
4. Distinguish security measures that will be implemented in the Proposed Automated Student’s Academic Recording and Monitoring System of AMA Computer Learning Center. HYPOTHESIS / ASSUMPTIONS
The implementation of this system will help ease the instructors and registrar in their computation of grades and also for locating records for students, it will also help students to know their standing or their grades per term. This will also reduce manual work and will avoid delay in the passing of grade. The system will help lessen hard copies that will help in securing records of student because the data will be stored in a secure server. 3
The system will also allow the students in their studies in a way because by knowing their current standing they will be able to adjust and be more proactive in the subject that they have problem. The proposed system will be a tool that will help the registrar in communicating with the professor.
