Assignment 1: Proposal (plan) and Annotated Bibliography
Analyzing the unintentional consequences that came from enacting The Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1933, historians had felt that the Act had both positive and negative effects on sharecroppers, tenant farmers and the general population of America. The federal government, by assisting farm jobs, through subsidized farm incomes, had decreased the production of crops and raised the price of all farm related commodities. In return, by reducing the production of the American farmers, the government reduced the amount of jobs that were required in the production of farm commodities. Those who had farming related jobs saw an increase in their wages, and the farmers increased their profits. The consumers saw an increase in the price of farm related commodities. Taxes were increased to pay farmers to limit production, so citizens had to pay more taxes and higher prices, for restricted commodities. This Act resulted in a reduced agricultural related employment that effected rural farmers more severely than city dwellers by increasing rural unemployment. Powell, Jim. This made being an unionized farm worker a desirable job and preference were given to whites.
