Proper Ways to Use Social Networking Site

The first pioneer of social networking site is; it was launched in 1997. Today, there are a lot of social networking sites, and the most successful ones are Facebook and Twitter; both of them have over than 200 million online users (Boyd and Ellison 214). Furthermore, people spend their most of their time in front of the computer, and they like browsing the internet, especially social networking sites. The survey from Nielsen Online in 2009 stated people spent 3x more time on Facebook than Google (Ostrow). Danah M. Boyd and Nicole B. Ellison define social networking sites as web-based services that allow individuals to construct a public or semi-public profile within a bounded system, articulate a list of other users with whom they share a connection, and view and traverse their list of connections and those made by others within the system (211). As what Danah M. Boyd and Nicole B. Ellison state social networking sites are tools, so they have good and bad sides. Therefore, as educated people, we have to use them properly.

Basic feature of social networking site is to connect people into the same network so they can communicate well and efficiently. The users of social networking sites can personalize their profile and upload a profile picture, so they can be recognized by their friends and relatives and keep in touch with them. Moreover, many companies are also using social networking sites to market and connect to their customer, employees, and investors (Susaeta). Nevertheless, this feature raise some problems; because people can create profiles as many as they want. Thus, some people create many fake profiles for bad reasons such as to attack others without showing their real identity and to disgrace some people.
