I am running a health campaign to promote the many benefits of living a balanced and healthy lifestyle. The campaign is aimed at teenagers from 16-19 years old and will show them the importance of eating a balanced diet and doing at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. My aim is to make young students aware of the effects of healthy eating and to change their lifestyle by changing their view on healthy eating. There are an alarming number of obese young people in Britain and my aim is to reduce this by getting them to get them enjoying exercise and encouraging them to make their own healthy living choices. An example of a local and national campaign that has taken place could be weight watchers. Weight watchers provide healthy and low calorie recipes that can easily be made at home, the also use a pro points scheme making it easier for members to track their calorie intake without actually counting them. You can follow the scheme online or go to local meetings at women’s institutes, church/village halls e.c.t. It is aimed at a varied age range welcoming anyone over the age of 16. This makes it successful as there is no restriction as to who can join; therefore it means that more people can become fit and healthy. The government are trying to reduce obesity rates within Britain. They have tried to do this by advertising national campaigns such as Change4Life on T.V, local radios and educating children within schools. ‘There has been a 4-fold increase in the number of children and teenagers admitted to hospital for obesity-related conditions in the last decade, doctors in England and Wales warn.’ ‘In 2009 nearly 4000 young people needed hospital treatment from problems complicated by being overweight compared with just 872 in 2000’ These are some statistics from the BBC News Health website.
