CASE 3: PROJECT PICKINGS

INTRODUCTION:
Tazer is a pharmaceutical manufacturing company. They are going to introduce 5 new drugs for which they require scientist to be assigned to a particular project. They have given bids to the scientists for a particular project. Bids are assigned from 1000 points and as such they should be assigned to a particular project. SOLUTION:

A) Given the bids for the project for the scientist, we have to maximize the preferences of the scientists. For this the first step is to convert the maximizing problem to minimizing. For that we have to substract maximum bid value and the whole matrix. From solver, solution is scientist| Project allocated| Bid value|

Dr. Kvaai| Project Stable| 100|
Dr. Zuner| Project Choice| 400|
Dr. Tsai| Project Up| 800|
Dr. Mickey| Project Hope| 451|
Dr. Rollins| Project Release| 800|

B) As Dr. Rollins is being courted by Harvard Medical School to accept a teaching position. Therefore, project allocated to Dr. Rollins would have to be dropped. Therefore, PROJECT RELEASE would have to be dropped. D) With new bid values given by Dr. Zuner and as Dr. Rollins is going to Harvard Medical School. Solving the assignment problem, by solver, we get

scientist| Project allocated| Bid value|
Dr. Kvaai| Project Up| 100|
Dr. Zuner| Project Choice| 451|
Dr. Tsai| Project Stable| 100|
Dr. Mickey| Project Hope| 451|
DUMMY| Project Release| 800|

E) NO, according to me, the projects are not allocated to their maximum preference. Therefore, I do not support this assignment. F) Now, given the new bid values with prohibited assigning, then solving the assignment model by solver we get, scientist| Project allocated| Bid value|

Dr. Mickey| Project Up| 300|
Dr. Kvaai| Project Stable| 343|
Dr. Rollins| Project Hope| 100|
DUMMY| Project Release| 0|
DUMMY| Project Choice| 0|

G) With 2 new...
