Project management simulation
Project management simulation: Scope, Resources and Schedule
Key Learnings:
Rightsizing the process is the applicable theory which can be applied to this simulation. Also we learned about using the triple constraint rule i.e. Prioritization vs Balancing.
Keeping a small size of working team group reduces the overall cost at all times and keeps the work a little behind of the schedule initially but at the end the work is completed before or on the desired management target schedule.
To make an appropriate balance in trade off, the simulation has to be worked out again and again to gain experience about different affecting factors like skill level of working team, prototypes, type of printer, outsourcing activities etc.
There should be effective use of employee hours i.e. Overtime should be encouraged all the time to fasten the process and reach the targeted schedule on time. (Exhibits)
It is also important to carry out one-to-one training or coaching sessions which can be gradually reduced along with progress in time, as we get near to our target schedule
There should be a co-ordination between outsourcing activities (Delegation) and working team members to increase the productivity and stay ahead of the management targeted schedule. (exhibits)
It is also important to ensure that all the work has been accomplished within the targeted management schedule.
It can be also be deduced that the emergency due to uncertainties can be avoided by using a flexible strategy.
The workers should be skilled with regular coaching sessions and the target should be at the upper end of the target scope. Overtime should be encouraged.
To gain a competitive advantage, it is always good to stay ahead of the schedule even though you exceed the cost on a short term basis but on a long term it will keep you ahead of competitors.

Playing this simulation has helped me understand the interdependent nature of organizational change management. It has highlighted the complex nature of change management that every director or executive must face to keep all the employees of the company onboard. They must do their best to keep the employees together though it may so appear that the employees do not seem to easily agree with one another. Also, the discrepancies between the middle-level and tactical-level employees could be though it were obvious. When certain changes were made to make the tactical-level employees happy, the middle-level managers seemed to think that was a bad idea, and when the middle-level managers found an idea quite exciting, there was little to no interest from the side of the workers who worked on the assembly lines or at the tactical levels.…
