It is incredible how many people travel to Ellicottville, New York, but yet it is still somewhat unknown. Although it is rapidly growing year by year, Ellicottville is still a quant village. Ellicottville is located in Western New York in the foothills of the Allegany Mountains housing two ski resorts, Holiday Valley and Holimont.
Ellicottville has numerous shops, restaurants and bars that are all centrally located; having everything in walking distance is the biggest perk of the village. The Ellicottville Brewing Company, also known as EBC, has a big following. Many of the surrounding area bars sell their brews. Most of the shops specialize in winter equipment and apparel, but in the spring and summer they turn over their stores to accommodate summer activities. The summer months are not as busy as the winter months. The winter is more of a tourist time, whereas the summer is more for the locals. Ellicottville does not have many year round residents; most of the homes are second homes or seasonal rentals.
Being home of the leading ski resort, Holiday Valley, it is widely known for its skiing, snowboarding, and other winter activities. Holiday Valley has been ranked a favorite among skiers in the East. The resort attracts a lot of travelers which benefits the entire village. Holiday Valley opened in 1957 with only four slopes. The resort now has 13 lifts, 56 slopes, 3 lodges, and 2 hotels. Another perk of the resort is that they offer nights skiing seven days a week until 10 pm. They do numerous events in the winter, from fundraisers to competitions. Nearly every weekend in the winter there is some kind of event. Holiday Valley recently added the Tamarack Club and John Harvard’s to their resort.
