Introduction
The word of the professionalism is rarely defined, it means to be a professional and use this understanding as they make decisions in their professional lives.   In a rapidly changing world, professional may not have a clear understanding of what the public expects. As the following, we will separate into 3 parts to discuss the professionalism:
1) Understand the meaning and definition of professionalism
2) Critically review professional standards in HSM: Nursing
3) Analysis and discuss professional issues identified from their workplace

Understand the meaning and definition of professionalism
Profession
The profession defines as a type of job that needs special training or skill, especially one that needs a high level of education, for example the medical, legal and teaching profession.

Professional
A professional is someone who is a member of an established learned profession.   To be considered truly professional, a person’s behaviour must be professional within the profession and outside of the profession within the larger community.

Professionalism
It defines the high standard that you expect from a person who is well trained in a particular job.   Professionalism encompasses the conduct, goal, commitments and responsibilities, all qualities that characterize a profession.   A significant part of one’s educational preparation for entry into a profession is the development of qualities, behaviour and even appearances that comprise professionalism.   Professionalism is often seen in the extent to which professionals develop a sense of calling to the profession (Olesen & Whittaker, 1968).

The characteristics of a profession:
1. Relating to autonomy
The profession determines its own standards of high education and well training.
Professions are self-regulating and have authority over clients

2. Relating to rigorous standards
The professional goes through a more stringent socialisation experience than other occupations.
