A professional learning network (PLN) is a flexible, activity space that gives you personalized professional career development. PLN’s connect you to other people across the world who can offer support, advice, feedback, and collaboration. A PLN allows teachers to collect information from many websites and access it in one organized area so they can stay up-to-date on the latest teaching techniques and changes in the field of education. There are various different places to create your very own PLN; Twitter, Facebook, or Wikis, just to name a few. There are many advantages when using a PLN. Creating a PNL is a very cost effective way to gain knowledge to advance your career. Instead to traveling to various conventions you can create a PLN for free and get a ton of valuable information. Also, you can make your PLN your own by personalizing the look of your page, you can also change and add information that you get on your page. Your PLN is available on your terms, whenever and wherever. In today’s society that is very important as we are constantly on the go. Your PLN is a great source for new ideas to use in your classroom. It is also a great place to go to get answers to any question you may have. Setting up your PLN is very easy. For example, to create a PLN using Twitter all you need to do is log on to www.twitter.com and follow the steps to create your own account. It doesn’t take long at all to create your account. Once your account is created you can search for educators to follow, for Missourians, or anyone for that matter, I would recommend “Missouri Educators”.
