I have chosen the American Medical Association (AMA) as a organization on Professional Knowledge and Abilities. The American Medical Association’s mission is to promote the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health. The core values of the American Medical Association are: (1) Leadership, (2) Excellence, and (3) Integrity and Ethical Behavior. The American Medical Association also has a vision. Their vision is to be an essential part of the professional life of every physician, to help doctors help patients by uniting physicians nationwide to work on the most important professional and public health issues, their policies on issues in medicine and public health is decided through its democratic policy-making process in the American Medical Association House of Delegates, and the American Medical Association’s activities with for-profit entities are directed by American Medical Association guidelines for corporate relationships and its internet products follow American Medical Association guidelines for health and information web sites. All of this together play an active role in shaping the future of medicine.
There are several ways the American Medical Association contribute to increasing the professional knowledge and abilities of every single person working in the medical field. They offer several seminars throughout the year regarding different health issues, new procedures, and new medical equipment coming out. You are also able to receive newletters and magazines about health issues. In the magazines there are usually tests you can take and then mail into the American Medical Association to get Continuing Education Units (CEUs). For a medical assistant you are required to obtain 60 CEUs every 5 years in order to stay certified. You are able to receive a majority of these at seminars and workshops.
