INTRODUCTION
Radiologists are no longer dependent on film.   The advances in Radiology are technology based.   Teleradiology has grown so much that now all modalities of Radiology such as X-ray, CT (Cat Scan), MR (Magnetic Resonance), US (Ultra Sound), FL (Fluoro), and Mammo (Mammography) are using Teleradiology.   The need for a PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) and RIS (Radiology Information System) are a necessary part of hospitals and clinics that do not have Radiologists on staff.   “Teleradiology systems consist of three essential components, an image sending station, a transmission network, and a receiving and medical image review station” (Optimize Medical, 2010).   In this paper the following are discussed:   what technologies are used in Teleradiology, the advantages of Teleradiology and how it has changed the Radiology business, industry trends such as CAD (Computer Aided Detection) in Mammography, and the emerging technologies to possibly be implemented for Radiologist’s use such as the iPhone and iPad.
TECHNOLOGIES USED IN TELERADIOLOGY
The technologies used in Teleradiology consist of PACS, RIS, DICOM (Digital Imaging Communication) standard, Internet, and VPN.   Most PACS and RIS that are used are web based applications.   The popular vendors included:   Siemens, McKesson, Philips, Fuji, AGFA, VistA for VA Hospitals, Radworks, Cedara, and GE just to name a few.   “PACS is an effective teleradiology solution that received images directly...
