Prison Systems
The prison system today is based on the false notion that the severity of punishment should match the severity of the crime committed. Within the paper I will go over numerous things that have to do with our Prison systems. But, let me add if you follow the laws and stay out of trouble nothing similar should happen and you have no need to worry.
The purpose of the State Prison system is too be a deterrent for crime. Individuals of which are sentenced to anything over a year serve at the state prison. Anytime before a year, is usually served within a jail or other worthy facility. State prisons are used to rehabilitate the individual of the said crime to return to society as a worthy citizen and to hopefully learn that crimes lead to bad things and that the punishments are not worth committing the crime. There are many programs within a state prison that are offered to help their inmates regain many things to help them become a productive citizen again. Whether it be for drug abuse, counseling, or job skills they are usually able to obtain some education from these programs within the state prison. This also gives inmates a chance to gain successful employment once released from the prison.
State prisons have had a problem with overcrowding within the last couple of decades. Due to drugs, violence, and parole violators (just to name a few) we have dealt with a climbing population within our prison system. There have been numerous idea’s within the news of ways to help relieve this overcrowding but, with the criminal activity the way it is the question is will we ever see the day?
The five state prison systems are:
1. Maximum-security prison of which is more of a lockdown prison. The prison consists of one-to-two man cells. These are usually the older penitentiaries with more guards towards inmates.
2. Close-high-security Prisons are a less restrictive maximum security.
