“All hail to the chief!” It’s hard to believe, but I have won the Principal for a Week award. Out of everyone in my class they have chosen me to be their leader for a week. I can’t explain how excited I am. There are so many things that I would change if I had the time and power. The most important to me in this week would be those things that I feel impact all the students. I want to make my school a more accepting place for everyone.
First, I would get rid of uniforms. I think uniforms stifle a person uniqueness and creativity. The types of clothes students choose to wear reflect personalities and show who a person really is inside. Further, I think we should do away with a dress code. I think each student is old enough to realize what is appropriate for school and would choose outfits accordingly. Therefore, I think that each student should be allowed to express themselves through their clothing in any manner they want.
Further, I would like for everyone to except each student for their individuality. So, I would enact a zero tolerance for bullies. I would make it where any student caught being a bully another student would be punished by suspension. Likewise, I think that students caught bulling should attend classes during lunch or after school to learn ways of dealing with people who may be different. Further, I think a school wide assembly to talk about bullying and its effects on students would be beneficial for everyone. During the assembly, students would share experience and coping mechanisms. Who know, maybe we will all learn things about others that we never knew before.
I think that students should be able to express themselves freely though their clothing and not be bullied for their choices. I want my school to be an accepting place where we can all get along and coexist. I know it may take a lot of work, and I only have a week, but hopefully we can start a change that would carry us all forward....
