1.0 Terms of Reference
This is a Project based Research in which, Using Carroll’s (1991) Four-Part Model of Corporate Social Responsibility critically analyse Primark’s approach to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in its supply chain operation. The report is to be submitted 3.00pm Monday July 23th.
The report includes information from various sources such as business journals, official websites and library resources. The references are provided at the end of the report.
Companies are beginning to realise the fact that in order to gain strategic initiative and to ensure continued existence, business practises may have to be moulded from the normal practise of solely focussing on profits to factor in public goodwill and responsible business etiquettes(Reynard and Forstater, 2002). Different organisations have different definitions of corporate social responsibility, although there is much common ground.
The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) defines CSR as “the commitment of business to contribute to sustainable economic development, working with employees, their families and the local communities” (WBCSD, 2001). More generally, CSR is a comprehensive set of policies, practices and programs that are integrated throughout business operations and decision-making processes and intended to ensure the company maximizes the positive impacts of its operations on society or “operating in a manner that meets or exceeds the ethical, legal, commercial and public expectations that society has of business” (BSR, 2003)
Primark is one of the best stores in United Kingdom and spread all over the world and know for its unique combination of fast fashion, and lean operations. Its first store Penneys opened in year 1969 in Mary Street, Dublin. In four years of time the number of store went to 18 that are in Ireland and Primark has extended their root to Great Britain with another four stores. In a decades time 13 more stores opened in United Kingdom and 12 in Ireland. In May 2006 Primark opened its first store in Spain that in Plenilunio (Madrid) and one in Murcia a year after. With every year Primark opened many stores thought-out England. Primark opened a 70,000 sq.ft store in London’s Oxford Street in year 2007. They also opened store in Netherlands, Portugal,Germany and Belgium....
