In planning this presentation, I was faced with many challenges. The most important challenge was how to conduct a presentation without actually being present. I learnt through this process how much I was out of touch with the technologies in all areas including teaching. Over the years I took a simple: “if I need it” approach; “I learnt it”. I realise now that this was a mistake of ignorance. This module opened up my eyes to the world of technology in a positive way. It is from this view; I then took on the understanding, that, “if I don’t have a piece of technology such as video capabilities then how can I construct a presentation without my presence?” I decided to use the narrative tools on PowerPoint to capture the message of this presentation. Additionally another challenge faced within this concept of teaching is that without being present you miss so much interactivity. Including the cues provided by the body language and questions provided by the participants.…

Training may be as easy as shadowing another employee to very involved when the employee is asked to attend a seminar to further the employees knowledge. Seminars can be training outside the organization or development training within the organization. Learning new skills that the employee can bring back to the workplace and implement with other employees is a valuable asset to give to employees. When employees receive training within the organization, they can self-manage because they understand the ideas the organization wants to grow and implement. “Ask the employee to train other employees with the information learned at a seminar or training session. Offer the time at a department meeting or lunch to discuss the information or present the information learned to others” (Heathfield, 2013, p. 1). Make the staff training part of the package so the employee understands the expectations before they embark on the new training. Empowering the trained employee to give other employees direction also enables the decision-making process within the…
There are four approaches for developing a presentation which are: a speech and lecture, a workshop, a discussion, and a group activity. These four approaches are known as public speaking when they are presented to a group of people. In a presentation, these four approaches should each include all three elements of the rhetorical triangle and they need to connect, or else even if one element is missing the presentation will fail (AIU Online, 2010).…

Every time you stand in front of a group, you must achieve two basic goals. First, you need to communicate a message. And second, you need to communicate your personality — who you are as a professional and an individual. If “the medium is the message,” your personality is the window through which the message must travel to be received, understood and acted upon by the audience. You convey your message and your personality every day of your life in relaxed conversation. And relaxed conversation is, therefore, your best possible communication style. By understanding the following principles, you can sharpen the skills youʼve acquired one-on-one and transfer those skills to group presentations, thereby increasing your effectiveness in both. 1. YOUR BEST STYLE IS RELAXED CONVERSATION 2. BE YOURSELF 3. RELAXED CONVERSATION IS TWO-WAY 4. RELAXED CONVERSATION IS RECEIVER-DRIVEN 5. LESS IS MORE 6. PEOPLE CAN LISTEN OR THINK 7. PEOPLE WON'T REMEMBER WHAT YOU SAY 8. BE CONVERSATIONAL IN YOUR DELIVERY 9. THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK 10. SILENCE IS ESSENTIAL…

Introduction Presentation is the practice of showing and explaining the content of a topic to an audience or learner. The term „presentation‟ is capable of giving butterflies-in-thestomach. This is because while making a presentation we are exposed to our audience‟s judgment and this is a frightening thought for most. While experience and command over the subject can make a great deal of improvement to a presentation, a quick reference to the right presentation skills resources can make a great difference (Hochberger, 2008). It is also important to understand that effective presentation skills are not solely for the fortunate few who are naturally good communicators but that effective presentation skill can be developed in anyone and that we all have the ability to learn how to become highly effective presenters. How to be a Good Presenter There are a range of practical skills that we can develop to become an effective presenter. According to Skillstudio (2009) the three key objectives that underline a good presentation often include the following: (1) to establish credibility with the audience; (2) to communicate information clearly to the audience; and (3) to persuade and/or influence the audience. Sillstudio (2009) categories these skills into three main areas: (1) the ability to create a clear message; (2) the ability to deliver the message effectively; and (3) the ability to fully engage with the audience. (1) The ability to create a clear message A clear message is normally a simple one. You may feel that you have to go into a lot of detail to get your message across but more often than not – “less is more”. Your audience are only able to take in so much during a presentation, so the clearer the message the more powerful it will be. Keep your message clear and simple by using the following guidelines: Have one key message only, this should be the most important point that you want to…
When delivering the material via a clear communication method, we must relate the material taught and how it affects the trainees of the organization or how it will help the organization accomplish its goal. Trainees must see the relevance of the information being delivered and how they will apply it in their current roles. In essence when communicating in the training setting learning occurs best when practice is as close as possible to real-world phases, situations and resolutions.…
