Pre Tokyo with Amrit Warraich
Introduction

O

n Monday the 5th of November Mr. Warraich and Mr. Puser are crossing half the globe to participate in the 51st annual Georges Baptiste Cup. The George Baptiste cup is a world wide well known

French competition where young individuals from the hotel and restaurant industry compete in various service elements. This year it is held in Tokyo, Japan where Amrit Warraich was born and raised. Amrit is 20 years old and is currently studying at the Swiss School of Tourism and Hospitality with the hopes and aims of becoming a successful hotelier. His passion and interest in the industry, as well as his social skills have lead him to this opportunity where he will be representing our school and Switzerland. In this interview we get to know Amrit Warraichs attitude and expectations one week before the actual event.

The Interview
In the Bavarian settings of the school restaurant I meet Amrit Warraich to talk and exchange thoughts about our up coming events, his to Tokyo and mine to London. He looks confidant and focused when I ask him what his expectations are. Amrit replies, “It’s going to be tough”. He thinks that he will gain a lot of experience with this journey and learn a lot. Everything from networking to being judge and criticized. Amrits goals with the trip are to: “place in the competition, eat some “real” food and hopefully see his family.” They live there but are originally from India. As soon as the topic came up Amrits eyes lit up, and even though he wont get the chance to spend enough time with them at this occasion, he gets to meet them every day during the winter break when he then goes back to Tokyo for one month. The Competition is divided into numerous segments in which Amrits skills will be tested in theory, order taking, blind wine- and liqueur degustation testing, setting up a proper table with a theme. McCandless was brave enough to do things most people would not even think about doing. "He was looking for more adventure and freedom than today’s society gives people,” comments one of Chris’s friends" (Krakauer 174). What modern society offers did not appeal to Chris McCandless; he wanted a different life that most people had themselves. He saw the influences society puts on our lives and decided he did not want to live that way. “No longer would he answer to Chris McCandless; he was now Alexander Supertramp, master of his own destiny" (23). McCandless, now known as Alexander Supertramp, did not want to be held back in any way; to insure he would get full freedom he changed his name so he was able to start fresh. McCandless took charge of his new life and was brave to be able to just leave everything he knew and was comfortable with to start new.…

“Brand that has developed internally with everything that makes a great little idea, a great little sleep which translates into a powerful philosophy that gradually grows into a model to study, imitates, admires, and encourages investment. For our organization we have been developing culinary concepts whose aspiration, from the beginning, was not only their internationalization , but also their segmentation, as understood from the beginning that the restaurants are not generic scenarios but spaces for different audiences, for different times, for different economies . When we started the restaurant " Astrid and Gastón "twelve years ago, we did it with a capital of $ 45.000, provided by family and friends without much faith, but with a great love for us. After 5 years, and after have finally found our philosophy, after having defined conceptually as Peruvian gourmet restaurant, which allowed us to position ourselves at the top of the pyramid of culinary market segmentation, made our first foray abroad in Chile, where the cuisine already had a great recognition. Prizes soon arrived, and then came Colombia, Ecuador, and now, Venezuela, Panama and Mexico. Today each of the premises located in these countries is not only profitable, but also, is recognized as a leader and benchmark for haute cuisine in each place. That's right: Peruvian haute cuisine closely with the French, Spanish, Italian, etc”- Gastón Acurio.…
