The Power of Nursing
“When you are a nurse you know that every day you will touch a life or a life will touch yours” (Author Unknown). Growing up I always had some interest in nursing but the past two years have removed all doubt that this occupation is meant for me. I find this field extremely interesting and believe that it is the perfect job for me. Between seeing my dad in the intensive care unit and being enrolled in a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) class, I have been exposed to countless nursing practices and have been able to see the impact a nurse can have on a person’s life on the first hand. I want to have a chance to have an impression on another person and make a positive imprint on them.

After graduating high school, I would like to attend Northern Michigan University and earn my Bachelor Degree in Science of Nursing and become a Registered Nurse. The main reason I want to attend Northern Michigan University is because it is a smaller college that has a great nursing program. After touring the college and speaking with a counselor, I could tell the teachers really cared about the students. It is ostensible to me that nursing is an extremely rewarding job. Although I have only had a few weeks of exposure to CNA clinical at a nursing home, I’ve been fortunate to experience how rewarding nursing can be.

Over a year ago, in late May, I remember receiving a phone call from my aunt saying that my dad was in the hospital and in intensive care. He had to be placed in an induced coma. The night before, while on his way home from work, he was involved in a horrific motorcycle crash and his rib lacerated his liver. In order for his liver to heal, he was placed in an induced coma and was unconscious for a little over a month.
