Poverty in America

        The United States of America is a country that people come to follow their dreams and find freedom. This is true for the most part, but there is something that many people never see about this country. More than millions of children in the states live in families that have incomes below the poverty level (NCN). With less than $20,000 a year for a family of four, who are the poor in the states? Poor people are not shy among African Americans, Hispanics, American-Indians, Asians, and White Americans (Fass and Cauthen). Poor people mostly live in the southern part of the United States, as well as big cities all over the country (COLL). These poor people lack job skills, are unemployed, or are in families that have been under the poverty level for generations. Even though there are many poor people all around America (and the world), the problem hasn’t seemed to be addressed. Poverty can be reduced if the government created organizations to help poor people earn money (NCN), qualify and keep jobs (PL), and help families support their children for a brighter future (PL).
        Teaching poor people how to earn and save money is one solution to solve poverty in America. For example, earning income tax credits would help the poor keep more of the money they earn. Income tax credits are for people who have low income and can reduce taxes that low-income people usually owe. Poor people will be able to earn more money, and of course, then be able to save more money for themselves and their families. Poor people, like anyone, need benefits for their life's as well as people who earn high income, such as health insurance (Fass and Cauthen). When poor people are able to earn more and save more money, they will have a better life. Also, they will have enough money for food, housing, and education.
