Thank you honorable chair for giving the United Kingdom the opportunity to be in this simulation.
The United Kingdom is aware of the situation going on between the threats of nuclear weapon testing. Today we are gathered here to discuss the issue of testing nuclear weapons. The practice of nuclear weapons harms our environment because every time a country decides to build a nuclear weapon they have in mind that it’s necessary to test those weapons either on the planet’s surface, underwater, underground, and in the atmosphere. These tests can cause diseases to the human population by polluting the air they breathe, the water they drink, and the contamination that is in the atmosphere. Some of the common diseases caused by the nuclear testing sites were leukemia, skin cancer, lung cancer, and other diseases. With these diseases they have caused worldwide epidemics that are still harmful and deadly to this day.
The United Kingdom has in the past signed treaties about nuclear weapon testing. A well known treaty that the United Kingdom signed was the Limited Nuclear Test Ban Treaty in August 5, 1963. The United Kingdom is aware that 116 countries have signed the LNTBT out of 195 countries in the world. In respect the United Kingdom is aware that France and the People’s Republic of China did not sign the LNTBT. France and China are two of the top five counties that are powerful in the world and other countries look up to them. As other countries saw that France and China did not sign the LNTBT they felt that they mind as well not sign it as well. This is why it’s crucial for France and China to sign this treaty.
