There are more negatives than positives for investing in porn. It in not only dehumanizing women, but it’s also destroying the thinking of people who view porn, as well as destroying relationships. Porn should be illegal and banned everywhere. In Female Sexual Slavery by Kathleen Barry, pornography is defined as a practice of cultural sadism as well as a means of diffusing it into the mainstream of accepted behavior and therefore into private lives of individuals.
“The most prevalent theme in pornography is one of utter contempt for women. In movie after movie, women are raped, ejaculated on, urinated on, beaten, sodomized, and left permanently scarred. Women are the objects of pornography, and men by far its largest consumers, and sexual degradation its theme.” (Richards) The purpose of pornography is to create sexual arousal as well as generate actions of the consumer. Porn depicts violence against women and the more someone watches it, the more they desire to ‘play out’ what they saw. “In one survey, I looked at sixty two percent of rapists, fifty three percent of male object pedophiles, and fifty six percent of female object pedophiles were regular engagers in pornography.” (Richards) Sex and violent crime offenders have a serious link to porn. The sex offenders have high exposure to porn as a child, which carries on with them for the rest of their lives.
Psychologist Edward Donnerstein, from the University of Wisconsin, found that brief exposure to violent forms of pornography could lead to anti-social attitudes and behavior. Male viewers tend to be more hostile toward women, less receptive to pain and suffering of rape victims, and more willing to accept various myths about rape. Researchers have found that pornography can produce an array of unwanted effects such as rape and sexual coercion. Specifically they found that such exposure could lead to increased use of coercion or rape, increased fantasies about rape, and desensitization to sexual violence...
