Polygamy Should not Be Restricted by Mudawana

Polygamy is a marriage that includes more than one wife, and it has existed for centuries in cultures around the globe. Almost all religions allow polygamy with no Restrictions of how many wives a man should have other than Islam which restricts it to four wives if a man can deal with them justly: otherwise he should just marry one. Morocco is one of these countries which require the written consent of the first wife to allow a man to marry the second wife. Although some
Moroccan people claimed that polygamy harms women and must be completely abolished, I strongly believe that polygamy is the only solution for many problems in our society; and for that, it should be accepted without restricting laws.

First, people who are against polygamy in our society alleged that it might just cause wives to be jealous and competed, which means that they will trick one another, and that could reach even to a murder case. However, I believe that if polygamy is not allowed without restrictions soon, that will prompt many issues to our society because there are many men in this country cannot live with just one wife. They will commit adultery to satisfy their sexual impulses, for one wife is not enough for them. That will lead to many cases of divorce and dissolve of many families because adultery is a betrayal that no one can accept, so instead of helping Moroccan women with this
Mudawana , it just ruins their marital lives.

Second, polygamy is a good solution to the problem of low marriage rate because the member of women in Morocco is higher than the number of men. Due to these Mudawan, many women will live their entire lives spinsters without a man who can protect them and live with them in harmony, and many of them will choose the wrong way and become prostitutes to fulfill their sexual desire, so the rate of adultery will soar, and because of that many dangerous diseases will spread in our society.

Third, Polygamy helps many poor women to move to another life which is filled with happiness and satisfaction. In our society, not any one can afford to marry more than one woman. It is too expensive to handle just one woman let alone three or four; the only person who can do it is a wealthy man that can save them from a desperate life that they used to live, and fulfill their dreams. However, Mudawan deprives these poor women from this opportunity to change their life and their status in this society.

To sum up, polygamy shouldn’t be restricted by Mudawan because of three reasons: first, it helps men to avoid adultery. Second, it helps reducing low marriage rate. Third, it helps many poor women to improve their status. I believed that polygamy is the only solution for many problems not just in Morocco , but in all over the world. There are many countries which have more women than men: for example, the rate of women in Russia is higher than men by 15 million, so how we can save these women from the life of prostitution without legalizing polygamy.
