Politics and War: The American Legacy.
Politics and war have influenced the direction of our nation since our fore-fathers embarked on freedom from tyranny; struggling under the reigns of Great Britain.   However, even with new-found freedom, politics and war continued to shift the course in which America was taking.   Men and women that believe in equality and the rights of individuals so much, that a nation would be torn by such differences.   War has been waged for many years and varying reasons, all of which have played vital roles in our society.   First, was the war of Americans; the Civil War.   Slavery was abolished through the blood that was shed on American soil.   Next, World War I was the first definition of America transcending from isolation.   Germany attempted to expand/take over many countries in Europe.   How was the year after the war considered a savage peace? (Bowles, 2011) Even though America had profited from WWI, it still eventually found itself in a Great Depression.   World War II found America getting the first deliberate attack against the nation.   Action needed to be taken to instill the fact that America was a nation that wouldn’t be taken lightly.   Therefore, with America displaying its ability to mobilize abroad and defend democracy against fascism and communism, isolation from global affairs was dead.   The dedication and sacrifice, even in the face of political animosity, steered American to abolish slavery, contest threats to democracy and proclaim its rightful title as a global superpower.

The Civil War
