Throughout my life there have been moments here and there that have affected my political opinion on the things but the one that sticks out most to myself was the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. In my opinion that day might have been as catastrophic to this nation when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. I had not really paid much attention to things that went on our world until then. Other events have pushed me some ways on issues while others have swung me the complete opposite of what I usually think. To me September 11 will always be a tragic day but I will remember it as the first day I began to form an opinion about the government.
I was in the fifth grade and was riding my bike to school that morning. As I arrived at school one of my friends whose parent had dropped him off came up to me and said that an airplane had crashed into the World Trade Center. Like most fifth graders at the time I had no clue what the World Trade Center was or why someone would fly an airplane into them. That afternoon I arrived home and my mom and dad were watching the news about the tragic event. I sat down and watched it with them and that is when I began to form an opinion to how the government works. Although I was only in the fifth grade I understood that this was a threat to our nations well being. My first thoughts were that our armies need to go out and find these men who put together these terrorist acts. It also made me realize that national security and defense were two of our most important things here in the states. Overall though it made me understand that this nation has to protect itself while being some form the world police because we can’t pushed around by terrorist and those who dislike out country.
That tragic event did bring us all close to together and realize how precious life can be. Since that day I have been more alert to what is going on in our world. I would watch CNN and Fox News everyday to see what was going on with our military in the... [continues]
