Abstract
Citizens of the community and society rely on law enforcement to protect and serve the people within society. Law enforcement officers range from local, state, and federal agents to inspectors whom perform specific duties in various ways. The social servant is a law enforcement officer who is able to meet the various needs of those within the community while remaining active with public relations. Law enforcement officers are social servants whom are crime fighters, crime preventers that maintain order within society.
    People rely on police officers and detectives to protect and serve the people within society. Law enforcement officers, that range from local, state, and federal agents or inspectors, perform their specific duties in a numerous ways, depending on the size and type of police department or area in which they live in. In most jurisdictions, law enforcement officers are expected to exercise authority when necessary, whether on or off duty. They are always expected to protect and serve the community.
Social Servant
A social servant can be defined as one that focuses upon the helping aspects of the job. The social servant is able to multi-task, while maintaining flexibility. This officer is suited for both patrolling and community policing. The social servant is a law enforcement officer that is able to meet the needs of those within the community while remaining active with public relations. “Because of this helping and community oriented approach, this officer quite naturally adopts the community policing philosophy” (Embar-Seddon, 2005). Officers with this personality who embrace this role as the social servant are generally happier overall in their profession.
