A decision was made to Interview Carmen Ledesma. Carmen was born in 1973; she has had a hard life growing up. Carmen’s mother did not want her around anymore and left her at a bus station when she was 11 years old. While at the bus station Carmen saw her father pull up in his car and told her to get in. Carmen was being abused mentally and physically by her father who was an alcoholic. Carmen had to raise herself and be independent at a young age.
At the age of fifteen Carmen ran away from home and met a young man that she thought was going to help her strive for a better life. Carmen was with this young man for 6 years and had three beautiful daughters. After having her children the man she thought she was going to spend her life with became abusive as well. Carmen did not know what she was going to do as a single mother with three children. Carmen decided to go to college and become a nurse. While studying she decided to take the police officer exam. This would be the beginning of Carmen’s journey for a better life.
Carmen became a police officer during the year 2006. She has overcome a lot of differences and made a commitment to help, and put her life on the line for others. Police officer Ledesma had to be trained to become an officer. Carmen was excited, but it was going to be hard work. Carmen realized that she was going to go through physical training and a diet was in need. Police officer Ledesma has never been under strict guidelines before so this was going to b
e a challenge.
Officer Ledesma had to have common sense. She was taught how to write reports accurately. This was putting a huge strain on the officer’s life and family. Carmen had no clue training to be a good officer was going to be this hard. Police officer Ledesma advises anyone who want to become an officer of the law, “not to join until they are ready to work hard and play less”. Because once you’re on the job you’re stuck.
