What is the management structure of the police component? * The police management has a component called watchmen style of procedures which inform officers to ignore minor violations, and settle disputes formally by meeting out street justice. * Another component the police management follows is legalistic style which tells the officers to preform matters formally. With legalistic style the administrators reduce discretion to a minimum and emphasize uniform and impartial arrest for all crimes. * The police management also follows a component called service style in which the management stresses community service above law enforcement. 2. What are the differences between the organizations in the police component as compared to the other two? * Police: Police are public agencies which purposes are to serve the community by maintaining order, enforce the criminal law and provide services. The goal of these procedures is for officers to prevent and control crime. Officers work with prosecutors to obtain evidence to set a conviction in the court of law. * Courts: Court is where a person accused of committing a punishable offense go to have their criminal responsibility determined by judges and juries. The purpose of having court is to seek justice and discover the truth. The people who make the court function properly are prosecutors, defense attorneys, and judges. * Corrections: In the corrections including the probation, parole, jail, prison and community based sanctions such as electronic monitoring and house arrest, the purpose is to punish, rehabilitate, and ensure public safety. 3. What are the roles, functions and practices of the different personnel within the component? * Roles: Law enforcement officials are opposed to fulfilling the duty imposed by law, by serving the community and by protecting all personnel against illegal acts. Officials are to respect and protect human dignity and maintain and uphold the human right of all persons. No act of corruption shall be committed with officials. * Functions: Police must prevent and control conduct widely recognized as threatening to life or property. Aid must be given to individuals who are in danger of physical harm, such as the victims of violent attacks. Officials must facilitate the movement of people and vehicles. Officials must aid those who cannot care for themselves, the intoxicated, the addicted, the mentally ill, the physically disables, the old and the young. Conflict must be resolved whether it is between individual groups or individuals or individuals and their government. Officials must identify the problems that have to potential of becoming more serious problems. Officials must create and maintain a feeling of security in communities. * Practices: As police abuse is widely known throughout communities it is still an issue today.
