It’s important to have a positive relationship with adults in a play setting for the following reasons: •To grow trust
To make sure there is good lines of communication
To make them feel welcomed/valued and are encouraged to participate in the play setting •It’s a good role model for the children and young people •Build a reputation with parents as they can recommend us to other parents •To boost parents confidence and self esteem

In some cases you may need the co-operation or help of the parents • To meet and find out the children’s need’s
To enhance your understanding of the child in your care •To provide consistency and stability for the child

It’s important to have clear communication with parents so they understand what is going on in the setting that they are no crossed wires and things can get done properly. It is vital to be able to communicate on a one to one basis and in a group context. Communication is a two way process and is not just about the words we use, but also the manner of speaking, body language and how we listen. To communicate effectively we must take into account the culture and situation of the person, for example where English is an addition language. Communication is an important way in which we express our views, understanding our feelings. We can share and discussion information and ideas through the communication procedure by being able to convey our meaning and being able to understand and interpret others. This involves using listening, questioning, understanding and responding to what is being communicated by others. It is also essential to understand that there are different communication methods such as written, e-mails, notes, meetings and newsletters and that it is vital that all communication is clear, legible, friendly, consistent and professional.
