1. Introduction
During this assignment we are going to be discussing one of the primary functions of management “Planning” and how it affects the overall organizational structure. We will discuss the roles of managers in detail along with the various organisational strategies which can affect an organization and its overall goals and objectives. We will also analyse the MBO process and see in what ways it can affect employees of an organization. The content in this assignment is divided into four tasks and each task will be discussed in three sections: Theory, Practice and analysis. 2. Description of the job and position of our chosen manager (Detailed description of the job and position that the manager holds in the organizations hierarchy to include their organizational role and daily activities) "Management is a multi-purpose organ that manages business and manages managers and manages workers and work." As per Peter Drucker’s definition, it allows managers to co’ordinate people with different knowledge and skills to achieve common goals. According to a French industrialist Henry Fayol managers perform five management activities: Planning, leading, organizing, co’ordinating and controlling. However in modern day management these functions have been confined to four which are Planning, Leading, Organizing & Controlling. All of these four function’s main purpose is to achieve the overall strategic objectives of an organization. To perform these functions managers are assigned to different position’s with an organizations hierarchy and therefore they can be responsible for various functions within an organization. Managers can be classified as according to the following chart:

Top managers are responsible for decision making and the overall direction of the organization; they also establish policies and strategies that can affect the organization and its members. Middle managers are responsible for translating goals set by top managers into specific targets that lower managers must achieve. First line managers are responsible for day to day activities of non-managerial employees. Non managers are people who are assigned different...
