Many processes have taken place to shape humans from the Australopithecus Afarensis to the modern day human also known as the Homo Sapien. As a result, the two defining traits that occurred by taxonomy are the effects of brain size and bipedalism. Humans, like other primates are considered as Order Primates in the Hominidae family and therefore are a prime example of taxonomy when the two diverged into different species. During taxonomy when humans diverged from their ancestors 6 to 7 million years ago, the result is the differences such as walking upright, brain size and overall skeletal structure are prominent due to the divergence of humans and other primates. Although primates and humans both share many anatomical, behavioral and socialization traits the differences are drastic and are all a result of selective pressures.…

Introduction: Every physics student has had a lot of experience with the force of gravity. Unfortunately, this experience is limited to the interaction between a very large object, the Earth, and much smaller objects that are very close to it. This is a very limited range of the possibilities. Software simulations of gravity allow physics students to explore a variety of other gravitational interactions between objects. These activities are designed to be used with the JAVA applet My Solar System that can be found on the Physics Education Technology (PhET) website at the University of Colorado at Boulder.…

Values, beliefs, habits, etc. do change from person to person in our culture. But to say there are no social norms completely contradicts the idea behind social norms. Social norms are unwritten rules that everyone in a society lives by. There might not be a reason for the norm, but that’s just how people of this society live. There are many popular social norms in American society. The social norms indicate the established and approved ways of doing things, of dress, of speech and of appearance, however its up to the individual to choose to follow these ‘norms’. That's the freedom that makes America great. Carmakers make SUVs because that's what people want to buy. If you love your SUV then enjoy it, however I recommend you ignore this persuasive and look away, but more importantly ignore David Goewey, author of 1999 award winning term paper “Careful, You May Run Out Of Planet”. The essay spoke about the underlying problems in SUVs that many don’t know about and problems many purposely ignore. David Goewey had also published a book called “Crash Out”, and now is working as a college professor. He intelligently and successfully batters at SUVs and there ‘necessity’ to Americans.…

For as long as mankind has walked on this earth, music has been an important part of our culture and lifestyles. Each walk of life beats to a different drum. Different cultures use music for many aspects of their lives; for religious purposes, for celebrations, for comfort, for sorrow, for relaxation, for sports, for dances, for energy, for learning, for sleeping, and for sexual experiences. Everyone uses music for something. Music connects with people and reaches them in ways that words simply cannot. Music is a representation of what feelings sound like. It expresses emotion and brings that characteristic out from within us; it tells us a story. Every generation has its’ own sound and different music styles have emerged and become extremely popular. In the 1950’s Rock n Roll came to the scene and shocked everyone. The new sexual language and sex appealing dance moves had people thinking it was the end of all innocence. Then in the 1980’s Hip Hop Rap became increasingly popular. Many people viewed this new music as stupid and disgusting. It was seen as a ghetto, spoken word, vulgar, type of music. An example of this stereotype is the views of Hip Hop/ Rap through James McBride’s perspective. In James McBride’s essay “Hip Hop Planet” he shares with us his views on hip hop/ rap music and how hard it was for him to appreciate it. Overtime people began to appreciate this new genre of music more. They started realizing that this is not just a bunch of ghetto people cursing and speaking; it has meaning. Hip Hop/ Rap is truly an artistic genre and expression of real talent. This genre of music depicts peoples’ lives, tells us a story, and expresses their emotions. Some songs can be inspirational and can move you in a way that other genre’s cannot. An example of an artist that can convey this in his music is Eminem.…

Voting done at the International Astronomical Union convention about pluto's status of being a planet was a harsh new reality, with the majority voting for pluto's demotion. Professor Alan Stern, chief scientist for the New Horizon mission set for learning more about pluto, called the outcome "an awful decision" and described the new definition as "internally inconsistent" ("Why Is Pluto No Longer a Planet?"). The debate of pluto being a planet has started since pluto first became a planet in 1930. The discovery was an astonishing find since astronomers had been baffled by the strange gravitational pull between Uranus and Neptune. While Percival Lowell was unable to find the precise location of…

It's amazing to think how Jupiter got its name. The ancient Romans most powerful god, was named Jupiter. They believed he ruled the heavens. In one way, the planet Jupiter also rules the Solar System. It is bigger than all the other planets combined! Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun. So, if you travel to Jupiter, you would travel away from the sun. As you get closer to this beautiful planet, you will see the planet covered in orange, brown, and white stripes. The planet Neptune was discovered on September 23, 1846 by Jean Joseph Le Verrier and Johann Gall. Neptune is the eighth and farthest planet from the Sun in the Solar System and is the last of the known Planets. Nearly 4.5 billion kilometers from the Sun, Neptune orbits the Sun once every 165 years. It is invisible to the naked eye because of the extreme distance from Earth. The atmosphere of Neptune is made of mostly hydrogen, helium, and traces of methane. With the methane gas in the atmosphere, this is what gives Neptune its blue color.…
