Photograph: American Films and Loud Engine Noise
Photograph Photographs are memories. They are the only thing that can bring you back to the past. Photographs are like time machines they can bring you back to any moment in your life. No one can describe a setting as well as a picture like the saying one picture is worth 1,000 words. Some are good and some are bad but they show all the things that a person has been through to make them what they are today. In my picture I am alone, to some people this is a bad thing to me it’s not. I don’t like having to rely on other people to do their job. I love when it’s just me like I am in space no one around, no one to say you’re doing it wrong, no one to yell. The best feeling is when you are riding on a track and it’s just you and your dirt bike. When only you can change the outcome of what will happen next. It may not seem like it’s very peaceful with all the loud engine noise but it is. I am at Mtn. View motocross track it’s about 2 o’clock on a hot summer day. The heat is pounding against the dirt. The dust is everywhere. It’s nearly impossible to see, goggles are covered in dirt, dust is in your eyes, and sweat is running down your face mixing with the dirt. Sounds terrible right? Well at the same time you are traveling at 30 mph taking corners, hitting jumps, and trying to pass the guy in front of you. The best part of it all is jumping. The adrenaline rush you get before every jump and the suspicion not knowing how it’s going to end. I’m leaving the ground leaning the bike left. This is a concept called a scrub. It’s when you get as close to the ground as possible so you can start accelerating sooner. My parents hate when I do it because it is very dangerous. Trying to lean a 225 pound bike sideways and making sure you bring it back straight up and down all in about a second is not easy. That’s what makes life so great. When I am dirt biking I am having the time of my life. No matter what happened before when I am out there nothing else matters. In my photograph it was the first time I had been dirt biking in about 3 months. I crashed and broke my leg so I couldn’t ride for way to long. The day after I got my cast off is when this picture was taken. I was so excited to ride once again. When I was driving to the track and I finally showed up my heart was pounding so fast. I think it was a mixture of being scared and just wanting to ride so bad. Right then I was thinking life is good. Everything I could want. I was working, making money during the day and dirt biking after. It couldn’t get any better than this. The photo was taken about 6 months ago and I am the same person. I haven’t changed in anyway at all. I try to ride every weekend if possible and I love every moment I am. I wish I could go back in time so I could make sure that I told myself to keep trying because it will all pay off. This picture means a lot to me and hopefully I can look back in 20 years and still be doing what I was in that photo.

To be alone, is being able to learn not only yourself, but to learn to love and appreciate the whole world around you. Like the way when you walk through the forest and the newly fallen leaves smell of fresh rain and the upcoming winter. When you look in the mirror and see that you’re beautiful even with your imperfections of acne and scars. Being alone is okay, it lets you appreciate what’s around and helps you learn to love your imperfetions acnce and scars and the world before you find your love. I saw a video once and great words came from it, “lonerness is okay, it’s okay if nobody believes like you, all experience is unique.”…

Throughout the story "An Uncertain Grace: Photography and the Alchemy of Light and Time" there were seven pictures that were talked about. One time I was riding a very high powered four wheeler, Yamaha raptor 700rr. This bike topped out at about 95mph (no exaggeration) and I was going about 60-70mph down a dirt/rock road. When I needed to slow down I tapped the front brakes a little to hard and the bike stood up on its front two wheels, now in my head, rather than getting eaten by a 400lbs bike I decided to jump off to my right. I tumbled and tumbled lost my shoes and oddly enough ripped my shirt off…

I tested the waters of bicycle riding by dragging my feet along the bumpy asphalt, but gravity was working against me. The incline was not allowing me stop, so jumped off. I walked away with only some bumps and bruises. The riding of my bike was put on hold for some time. My fear had gotten the best of me. It was not until the next summer that I would venture out again on my bike.…

Every photograph that I create conveys who I am, what I aspire to be, and how I belong in the world around me. I find myself drawn to different perspectives and ways of perceiving Earth and all of its inhabitants. When I walk along the woods, my eyes are instantly drawn to the illuminating glow of the leaves and the dancing shadows of the trees. My mind tends to reveal these instances of time on its own accord, surprising me throughout each passing moment as I think back and come across mental photographs my mind has conjured up. Just like the reading states where it became a way for black people to come out and be noticed and respected; to be represented. Photographs show the truth in the lives of people, in our country, in the world, past, present, and sometimes even the future. The images that are portrayed always have a much deeper truth then what can just be seen with a quick glance. The author talks about how her parents took photos of her family and their lives constantly. The reason for this being that there is a deeper truth behind it. They weren’t able to express themselves in the past and so much of their lives had been lost. Therefore, they were taking every opportunity to capture and cherish…

The engines rev higher with each second of the gate drop creeping closer, the vibrations of the motorcycle underneath you making you even more nervous, the smell of exhaust almost suffocating you inside your helmet, and in a split second the gate has dropped and 40 riders all funnel into the first turn. While some say it is just a simple race others see it as a lifestyle, a way to get off the edge, a high risk to fill their need for a rush, or just a quick shot of adrenaline. This is Motocross. The sport of Motocross is mostly looked upon as a death wish although it is very dangerous I think that the excitement and thrill is definitely worth the risk.…
