While thinking of computer software, you begin to think of Microsoft. In fact if you use a computer, chances are that you will have some type of program on there that is developed by Microsoft. Bill Gates is the chairman and co-founder of Microsoft Corporation, the worldwide leader in software, services and solutions that help people and businesses realize their full potential. When it comes to discounted variety stores there are not many stores that compare to Wal-Mart. The founder and former chairman of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world’s largest retailer, is Sam Walton. The innovative thinking of Bill Gates and Sam Walton has changed the business world. With Bill Gates’ contributions to computer technology and Sam Walton’s contribution to the retail industry there is no question why their companies are worth billions of dollars today. William (Bill) H. Gates III was born October 28, 1955 in Seattle, Washington. His dad, William H. Gates II is an attorney, and his late mother, Mary Gates, was a schoolteacher, University of Washington regent, and chairwoman of United Way International. Gates attended public elementary school and the private Lakeside School. There, he discovered his interest in software and began programming computers at age 13 (Microsoft, 2011). As young teenagers Bill Gates and his childhood friend, Paul Allen, ran a small company called Traf-O-Data and sold a computer to the city of Seattle that could analyze local traffic patterns. In January 1975, Paul Allen read an article about the Altair 8800 microcomputer in Popular Electronics magazine. He showed the article to Bill Gates who called MITS, the makers of the Altair, and offered his and Paul Allen's services to write a version of the new BASIC programming language for the Altair. In eight weeks, Allen and Gates were able to demonstrate their program to MITS, who agreed to distribute and market the product under the name of Altair...
