I believe that nursing is an art, a science and a professtion that requires a great amount of passion and dedication to improving the overall physical, psychological and mental well-being of individuals around the world. I believe that in order to become a good nurse you should be free of judgment against all other people and keep an open mind even when you do not agree with the lifestyles that others have chosen. In order to become a nurse, one has to be accepting, willing to continue to learn the basics principles of nursing as well as expanding thorughout one's career. Nursing education is not something to be memorized, it is an ongoing learning process that is forever changing. I believe that in order to become a nurse, you must have certain characteristics as well as being knowledgable about the basic principles. I believe that a nurse should be compassionate, detail oriented, empathetic, able to work under stress, and should have good communication, and critical thinking skills as well as the want to help others. What good is it to go through all the years of nursing school and pre-requisites if you truly do not want to help others? I hate to see those people who go through nursing school without any problems and not really care about those that they will be taking care of in the future all because they are just "book-smart" and then you see those who have good clinical skills and are compassionate about helping others, but just aren't that great with test taking strategies or maybe just have bad test anxiety. I believe that nurses should possess BOTH good clinical skills as well as adequate testing skills; NOT just good testing skils. And finally a nurse should also work well in collaboration with others to ensure holistic care.
