Three brothers, Robert Wood Johnson, James Wood Johnson and Edward Mead Johnson, found Johnson & Johnson in 1886. Johnson & Johnson (J&J) is a global American pharmaceutical, medical device and consumer packaged goods manufacturer. The corporation's headquarters is located in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Johnson & Johnson, together with its specific divisions, engages in the research and development, manufacture, and sale of various products in the health care field worldwide. Its Consumer segment offers products for use in the baby care, skin care, oral care, wound care, and women’s health fields, as well as nutritional and over the counter pharmaceutical products, and wellness and prevention under Johnsons, Aveeno, Clean & Clear, Neutrogena, Lubriderm, Listerine, Reach, Band-Aid, Neosporin, Carefree, Stayfree, Splenda, Tylenol , Sudafed, Zyrtec, Motrin, and Pepcid AC names. This segment markets its products to the general public, as well as to retail outlets and distributors. J&J's pharmaceutical products include drugs for family planning, mental illness, nervous system diseases, gastroenterology, oncology, immunotherapy, cardiovascular disease, pain management, allergies, and other areas. The medical devices and diagnostics segment includes surgical and patient care equipment and devices, diagnostic products, joint replacements, coronary stents, and contact lenses. The Pharmaceutical segment’s broad portfolio focuses on unmet medical needs across several areas which include: cardiovascular & metabolism, immunology, infectious diseases & vaccines, neuroscience & pain, and oncology. These products are distributed directly to retailers, wholesalers and health care professionals for prescription use.
