Review Sheet Results
1. Describe the normal ranges for pH and carbon dioxide in the blood.
Your answer:
The normal range for pH is between 7.35 and 7.45. The normal range for carbon dioxide is 35 and 45 mm Hg.
2. Describe what happened to the pH and the carbon dioxide level with hyperventilation. How well did the results compare with your prediction?
Your answer:
My prediction was accurate in that the pH level did in fact increase and the Pco2 decreased just like in the simulation.
3. Explain how returning to normal breathing after hyperventilation differed from hyperventilation without returning to normal breathing.
Your answer:
Returning to normal breathing after hyperventailation differed from hyperventilation without returning to normal in that one completly stops breathing all together after returning to normal.
4. Describe some possible causes of respiratory alkalosis.

Taking an arterial blood gas and checking the lactate level in the blood can give clear indication of acidosis. Hypovolemia can manifest when there is about 15% loss of circulatory volume, but the more volume lost the more significant the clinical signs become (Hall, 2010).…
