7TH MARCH,2013 A manufacturing sector is the sector engaged in chemical, mechanical or physical transformation of materials, substances or components into consumer or industrial goods. The manufacturing sector in Ghana lately is faced with keen competition in relation to the other sectors of the economy. Hence a pressing need for any firm yet to enter or already in that sector to plan strategically for the proper optimization of the scarce resources. The two major tools that can be used for business planning and strategization is the SWOT and PEST analysis. These tools are very important in feeding important information into the business strategy formulation process. The SWOT analysis primarily highlights the microeconomic (internal) and macroeconomic (external) factors that affect or influence a business objective. The internal processes are the Strength (which includes Price, people, skill, quality, proximity of firm to market and quality of items produced) and Weaknesses(Reliability of data, processes and systems). The external processes are Opportunity ( Demand Trends, Seasonal/weather, contracts, technology innovation) and Threats(Economic factors, Legislative factors, Political Factors).
