I. Attention Step
Believe it or not, according to choices.com, about 3,000,000 teens drop out of high school each year. That’s approximately 7,000 a day. This is not only hurting their success and the amount of money they can earn, but also the economy of the entire United States.
Although some people might think every teen should be able to make the decision to drop out or stay in high school themselves, but teens need to realize the consequences that come with dropping out. When you’re is a young teen you may not be thinking about how your decisions can affect your future, without a high school education you cannot attend college, this will make it harder for you to find a high paying job, let alone a job at all.
II. Need Step
A. When a person is a young adolescent, they’re thinking about now, not the future, and they may regret the decision to drop out later.

Most of the teenagers that end up dropping out of high school are thinking about how much they don’t want to be at school or how they cannot handle the workload.

Sometimes teens have actual trouble in school and going to regular high school isn’t the best option, but they still need to get an education somehow, even if its online classes. In other cases, teens just don’t want to go to high school, and that’s their reasoning for dropping out. They aren’t thinking about their future.

According to State Representative Martha Waltz of Boston, few, if any, 16 year olds have the wisdom and knowledge to understand the lifelong consequences of ending their high school education at 16

Teens that dropout need to understand how hard it’s going to be to make a living without a high school diploma or the education provided in high school and how this may affect their life.

B. In order to go to college and receive further education a person must

have their high school diploma.
● If someone is wanting to go to college and have the college experience they must finish high school. Going to college can potentially be just as important as finishing high school. Graduating college opens up a thousand more job opportunities, and gives someone the possibility to earn a much larger salary than someone that does

not finish high school or does not go to college. Although to get accepted to a college you must have finished high school.
● According to Parenting and Family expert Gina Ragusa “In order to continue your education at a community college, university or accredited online university, a high school diploma will be required. Without a high school diploma, postsecondary institutions will not accept your application. By obtaining your high school diploma and furthering your education in postsecondary institutions, you will make yourself available to accept indemand jobs carrying higher salaries”

C. If you want a good job that pays well and that will support you, you must have your high school diploma and most likely even more education than that.
● These days with a bad economy and not as many places hiring, it is highly important that someone looking for a job has proper education. Not only is it important that someone knows what they are doing when applying for a job, but finishing high school and getting an education also shows their employer or possible employer that they are committed.
● “The average dropout can expect to earn an annual income of $20,241, according to the U.S Census Bureau. That’s a full $10,386 less than the typical high school graduate, and $36,424 less than someone with a bachelor’s degree”

This statistic shows just how important getting a high school diploma can be to your future. Everyone wants to be able to support themselves, and the best way to insure this is to graduate high school.

II. Satisfaction Step
A. The most important step to fixing this problem is to stay in school and encourage other to also. ● Staying in school can get someone so much farther in life. You need to realize the decisions you make can affect the rest of your life and getting a good education is one of these decisions.
