Heidy Lopez ¨Society needs us just as we need society...¨ 10¨c¨ english
We all know that our country is going through some hard times in the economic matters. Homelessness has become a major issue now, and I think we should become more involved with our community. I have been toying with the idea for a while now and I think this is the best time to present it. As a student council member I took the liberty to arrange meetings with teachers to explain some plans I have come up with, but I need your help. Our students need to have a better grasp in reality and understand that not everyone is as fortunate as we are. I want to improve the amount of help we give to society, because it is needed a lot now. One of the ideas I had is maybe doing visits to poverty stricken communities with groceries or school supplies to help the people living there. It doesn’t have to be monthly or anything, I just want us to project in our communities and try to make a change, something we will not achieve by sitting and waiting around just for distant opportunities. The situation now is extremely worrying, kids are on the streets begging for money or some food to eat and it is horrible to know that we have so much more than them and we take it all for granted. Most of the students are not rich by any measures we have luxuries that those people can only dream of. I want to help as much as I can because it is a cause that has been neglected and just taken upon for propaganda by most people. We live in our own little bubble now and fail to see the world crumbling and falling down around us because it hasn’t hit us yet. I want us to become more socially responsible and to take a stand and do something! Something that we can all be proud of for the right reasons. These people need us even if they don’t directly ask for it. It is heartbreaking to go to those places where poverty seems to be the employee of all months.
