The characteristic that best reflects who I am
Perseverance means ‘having a steady persistence in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement” ( (www.dictionary.reference.com). To me, this characteristic is important for me to have if I am to be successful at anything that I do. My desire to persevere helps me to be a successful high school student at Waynesville High School so that I can later attend the University of Missouri (Mizzou) upon my graduation in spring 2013. If I am accepted as an undergraduate student at the University of Missouri, I plan on studying Chemical Engineering as my major. In order for me to be successful in my college career I must persevere through all obstacles. I must be willing to work through any and all obstacle that I may be faced with. My ability to be persistent gives me the drive to excel in areas that my peers thought were tedious and too difficult to even attempt. Although I experience failures at time, my persistence does not allow me to give up, I am always willing to do work as hard as I need to and keep trying over and over again until I am able to change my failures in successes. I’ve realized as I’ve gotten older that in the past, during elementary and junior high schools my friends and I were able to be successful and excel through these early grades without a lot of effort. As I’ve gotten older I’ve learned that it is only through facing obstacles and overcoming them that I am able to find the desire in myself to be persistent and to persevere regardless of the obstacles that I am faced with. In conclusion, I know now that the one characteristic that will allow me to truly be successful in my life and to attain my dreams is my desire and willingness to work hard, to be persistent and to persevere no matter what the obstacle, this is the quality that sets me apart from my peers.
