The Philippine Educational System is having some difficulties in resolving the different issues regarding the quality of education that we have today. Because of this, ,His Excellency Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino our 14th President prioritized the upgrading of the educational system in our country. To give the Filipino people a good quality of education and for the Filipinos to be more globally competitive. One of his agenda is the K-12 PROGRAM wherein 2 more years are added in secondary level which is called “Senior Highschool” , one of the objective of this program is to prepare the student in entering the tertiary level and so that their skills be developed as they are preparing themselves to enter to a new chapter of their lives. With this 10-point agenda that is being implemented by our president we can expect a more progressive, ideal and competitive individual that will be of great help in the future. It is very inspiring to know that the government never stop thinking on how to upgrade the educational system in our country. This time, we know that every Filipino has no right to say that I did not go to school because of poverty because with the programs of Pnoy being poor is not an excuse or a hindrance in going to school and get a college degree, It is now our own will if we want to have a bright future. As the saying goes “ We make our own destiny”.…

term of our essential instruction program puts Filipinos who are intrigued to either work or concentrate abroad off guard. This is on account of different nations see our 10-year program as inadequate, which at that point, makes Filipino graduates not be considered as experts abroad (Velasco, 2012). Given all these supporting realities, there is without a doubt a need to move forward the nature of essential instruction by improving it and by extending the fundamental education cycle (Velasco, 2012). Besides, as displayed in the article of Velasco (2012) identified with An Introduction on the new K-12 Philippine Educational programs, President Benigno S. Aquino reported: "We have to add two years to our essential instruction. The individuals who can bear the cost of pay up to fourteen years of tutoring before college. Accordingly, their youngsters are getting into the best colleges and the best employments after graduation. He said that he need no less than 12 years for our state funded school kids to give them an even possibility at succeeding. "In accordance with this, the 1987 Philippine Constitution expresses that, "The State might build up, keep up, and bolster a total, sufficient, and coordinated arrangement of instruction pertinent to the necessities of the general population and the general public." Such order offers equity to the fundamental privileges of each Filipino tyke: the privilege to quality instruction and the privilege to a quality life. K-12, or Model Kinder-6-4-2 is a program developed by the Department of Education. The educational system in the Philippines will now have thirteen years of basic education. The research is bound to finding out the differences and similarities of Philippine K-12 from other countries. The researchers also conducted an interview with Mrs. Luz Mandaue and she said that the educational system in other countries is better than the Philippine K-12. K-12 was compared with the U.S. educational system and the Chinese educational system because their government gives importance to their education. Our research will show that reforms are usually for the better especially when they see that we are always left behind. The researchers’ study is about K-12 and some other educational system of countries like U.S., China, Japan and Singapore. The researchers would like to know why Filipinos prefers to study in foreign countries rather than in their own countries. And this study would also like to show what benefits will the incoming generation of students gain with this system, and to show how other countries adjust during an educational reform. The researchers would like to inform Filipinos in what might happen in their system of living once K-12 is the on-going educational system of the country.…

Sheldon Shaeffer, director at the Bureau of Education of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Asia Pacific, said that the K+12 (Kindergarten plus 12 years) was a necessary reform “to make the system comparable to and competitive with other countries.” The two additional years in Senior High School are envisioned to serve as a specialization period for high school students whether in vocational skills, music, the arts or sports. This would give high school graduates the option to pursue jobs with a basic education diploma or proceed to college. The program aims to make Philippines Education at par with the rest of the world, with 12 years of basic schooling already a global standard. The DepEd (Department of Education) started the phase implementation of K+12 in June 2011, with the institutionalized Public Kindergarten Program for 5-year-olds. It is set to introduce a new curriculum for Grade 1 and 1st year high school. If implemented on schedule, the full K+12 Program will have its first graduates in March 2018.…

Cornelio, Mrs. Suyo says that K-12 was implemented to uplift the quality of education especially among our Filipino learning. She also agrees that K-12 is a good thing. To her, K-12’s main goal or focus is “to provide or equip our learners with lifelong learning skills and to produce learners who will become globally competitive and they will be able to survive in the cycle called life”. She thinks that K-12, although not immediately, will solve the unemployment problem. Asked about K-12’s effects on the parents, teachers, and students she says “The effect is varied depending on the person. Parents, somewhat negative as they were not given clear information on K-12. Teachers, they have a clear understanding of K-12 since they were trained on what K-12 education is about. Students, they find it strange, but eventually, they will be able to understand that it is for their own good”. She believes it is worth it as students are given enough time to think of their career while being equipped with skills necessary to aid that choice. She knows that the DepEd officials are prepared to proceed with K-12 but also stresses out the fact that none of them know what the current state is in the field. She is rather disappointed on some of the parents who complain about K-12 as they do not understand the beauty of K-12. Along with Mrs. Cornelio and Mrs. Mananquil, she says that there would be no financial problems on K-12 for senior high school is free in public schools and Government-assisted in private schools. She also brings a sigh of relief to professionals saying that the skills given to the K-12 senior high graduates are the ones needed in factories and farms leaving professional tasks…

I personally believe that it is high time that we start changing the educational system of the Philippines through the implementation of the K to 12 Basic Education Program. As a secondary school teacher, I have witnessed personally how our young generation graduates without having themselves equipped totally the basic knowledge they must have developed in the previous curriculum implemented in the schools. According to a survey, it is only the Philippines which has not adopted the 12 years basic education program in the whole of the Asia. This is the very reason why even if we have intelligent and globally competitive graduates, these graduates cannot still be recognized as professionals abroad because they lack the number of years to complete the basic education.…
